And above all these put on love,
which binds everything together in perfect harmony.– Colossians 3:14
In Colossians 3, Paul shows the new believers at Colossae how they are to live according to their new identity in Christ. In the middle of describing the character of this new life, Paul tells the church that love is now to be an essential part of how the church serves each other. That love binds God’s people together in perfection.
This Sunday we will be considering our second mission action: to love others like Jesus. This love will be expressed in so many beautiful ways in the life of our church, in both formal and informal ways.
We love others not just by filling a place on a roster (though that is a wonderful way to love others!) but by treating others with the compassion of Christ.
We love others like Jesus when we warmly welcome the newcomer to our services.
We love others like Jesus when we pray and provide for those in need in our church family.
We love others like Jesus when we commit to doing life together and reading God’s Word in a Growth Group.
We love others like Jesus when we bear patiently with others and forgive, knowing how the Lord has forgiven us.
We love others like Jesus when we give others our time, perhaps by staying longer at church to talk with someone or inviting them into our home.
How wonderful would it be to see more of our church family serving each other in love?
There are countless opportunities to get involved with serving at St. John’s (see below). Perhaps this Sunday would be a great opportunity to speak to your congregational pastor about how you can serve at St John’s?
Opportunities to serve at St John’s:
And whatever you do, in word or deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.– Colossians 3:17

PRAY: Give thanks for the opportunity to love one another within our congregations, recognising how this love fosters unity and harmony in our church family. Ask God to help our church family express love in meaningful ways, treating one another with compassion, welcoming newcomers, and supporting those in need. Ask God to inspire and empower each member of our church to actively serve and love others as Jesus has loved us, fostering a spirit of unity and service within our community.
