How many people can you fit in a living room?

Last weekend, at the STOKED Men’s Weekend, we fit 32. The sound of 32 guys singing How Great Thou Art captured the joy of our fellowship.

The men of St John’s gathered on Friday night and most of Saturday to encourage one another in faith, to stoke the fire. To stir us to dig deep into the Scriptures, Jeff, James, and Noah preached from Hebrews 1, 2, and 3. We discussed how to apply these passages to our lives, thought about tools for reading the Bible carefully, and considered what it means to be men who, like Psalm 119:97, declare:

“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”

And we had great fun while doing it!

Did you know there are free online tools that let you search any word in the Bible? You can see how often it’s used, how it’s most frequently translated, and find similar passages. Two excellent options are:

If you need help getting started, just ask!

The men who attended the weekend want to keep adding fuel to the fire. They might even ask you what God’s been teaching you lately, or what you’ve been reading in the Scriptures. They’re trying to live out Hebrews 3:13:

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today.’”

So, let me encourage you — share something that’s been encouraging you recently, and then turn the question back on them!

Hebrews reminds us that it’s not easy — we can drift away. The solution? Remain anchored in Christ. He alone secures our salvation. We need to keep looking to Jesus, and it’s a great help to have a family around us who spur us on.

Pray for the men of St John’s to keep anchored in Christ

Give thanks for the fellowship and encouragement the men of St John’s enjoyed at the STOKED Men’s Weekend. Ask God to help the men to keep digging deep into the Scriptures, loving his Word, and encouraging one another daily. Ask God to help them remain anchored in Christ and to spur on the whole church family to keep looking to Jesus.
