Explore the Jesus Who Transforms Lives

At St John’s our vision is to see our city transformed by the hope of the risen Christ. We do this as we GROW as disciples of Jesus, LOVE others like Jesus and TELL the world about Jesus.

Our main strategy to TELL our city about Jesus is through our Explore course. The very heart of our Explore course is about helping people meet the risen Lord Jesus for themselves as they read and study God’s word in a context that is both socially warm and evangelistically sharp. We know that the gospel is powerful to transform lives!

Paul expresses this same point when he writes this to the Christians in Rome:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

- Romans 1:16

The power of God to bring sinners from death to life is seen as people hear and respond to the gospel. Without the gospel, humanity is lost and destined to eternal destruction.

Recently, St John’s has revamped our Explore course in an effort to help people engage even more effectively with the gospel. Previously, Explore was a 4-week course studying the gospel of Mark. But now, having adapted Matthias Media’s recent ‘Discover’ course, Explore has become a 5-week course to marvel at the person of Jesus Christ by studying the gospel of Luke.

In God’s kindness, this has already started to bear fruit as we’ve witnessed many engage even more deeply with the wonderful truths about the person and work of Christ. Explore has seen countless people over the years come to faith in Jesus and grow in their faith in Jesus. It is one of the most important and eternally significant ministries that we do.

So, how can you support Explore?

1. Consider whether serving at Explore is something with which you could be involved. It is a great opportunity to grow in your own skills in evangelism and welcoming newcomers at church.
2. Consider whether there is someone in your life and in your congregation that you could be praying for and inviting along to Explore. There is nothing to lose and eternal life to gain by inviting our unbelieving friends along to Explore.
3. Please pray for Explore as it begins on Friday 6^th February. Pray that the gospel would be proclaimed clearly and persuasively. And pray that God would bring many to faith in Jesus and eternal life in him.

Pray for Explore and the Proclamation of the Gospel

Give thanks for the gospel, the power of God for salvation, and for the Explore course that helps people meet the risen Lord Jesus through God’s word. Ask God for boldness, clarity and love for those serving and inviting others to Explore, and for hearts ready to hear and respond to the gospel. Ask God to proclaim the gospel clearly and persuasively through Explore, and to bring many from death to life as they come to faith in Jesus and receive eternal life in him.
