“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” - John 8:12
This term at St. John’s we have been studying John’s Gospel to see just how big and glorious the Lord Jesus, the I AM of the Old Testament, truly is. We’ve had our vision of Jesus enlarged and we’ve been encouraged to think about whom we might be able to tell of our great God. As we’ve read of the opposition and hostility of the Jewish leaders to Jesus, we expect to face the same knowing that “a servant is not greater than his master”. And yet, we know that God has His elect who are waiting to hear the good news about Jesus Christ.
Our Explore course is one of the ways at St John’s where we seek to speak of the greatness of Jesus with those in our community. Over the month of February, we saw more than 20 newcomers across the different English congregations join us at Explore. It was a deeply encouraging time witnessing many grow to understand the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection for them. It was also a wonderful thing to see many of our church members inviting friends and then attending Explore along with them. This has been such a great occasion for people to tell their friends of the greatness of Jesus Christ.
We have even more opportunities to do this in the coming weeks. We will have opportunities to speak with people about the greatness of Christ on our church lawns as the local “Parrachute” festival happens. We will be able to invite family and friends along to our Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. And we will be able to invite people along to our next round of Explore in April.
As we continue to learn from John’s Gospel together and witness the glories of our Lord Jesus, let us consider whom we can be praying for and inviting along to Explore.
