Last Sunday the kids, youth, parents and leaders of St. John’s were able to enjoy a nice lunch together and reflect on how our Kids and Youth ministries have been going so far this year. We were joined by over 100 parents, leaders and kids across all our language groups. We heard an update on how both Kids Church and Engage were going and we received some helpful training on how we can speak to our children about some of the more sensitive topics of life. There were many parts of the event that encouraged me, but I think the best part was seeing a visible expression of the partnership we share in raising our kids as disciples of Christ.
In Ephesians 6:4 Paul says, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Paul shows us that the responsibility of helping our children to follow Jesus lies primarily with parents (and particularly fathers). But Paul includes this instruction in a letter addressed to the entire church. Paul envisions the whole church participating in the work of making Christian disciples of our children. And this is what we got to see at our Partnership Lunch last Sunday. It was deeply encouraging to see the commitment of St. John’s to grow our kids and youth in their love and knowledge of God and I hope this is something we can continue into the future.
Please continue to pray for our Kids and Youth ministries, that we would equip and encourage parents to raise their children as disciples of Christ. Please pray that Jesus would continue to get all the glory in these ministries.
